Have you guys ever considered going no smoking? I know a lot of people smoke but man it sucks coming off the court and getting a big whiff of marlboro light (or cigars in some cases). Just a suggestion!

I am not much for the smoking either, but going no smoking wouldn't be good for business. What goes best with a cigarrette, a nice cold beer of course. It, unfortunately is part of the whole social gathering aspect. I know I flirted with the idea of having a designated smoking area at Southern at one time, but with 7 courts, it is really tough. Providing an outdoor arena for people to socialize, drink, smoke and just have fun is highly profitable. Like I said Steve, I like the idea, because it can be somewhat bothersome to come off a court and inhale someone elses cigar or cigarrette smoke, but I think it just comes with the territory.

You shouldn't change a thing. I'm a non smoke but its people right to smoke or not smoke. Its an open area, so the smoke doesn't hang around for to long. I wouldn't change a thing.

The following is just my opinion. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, just stating what I believe so please don't take it the wrong way! Both of my brothers smoke as well as my mom. I even smoked for 4-5 years so it's not like I don't understand (we are talking like a pack and a half a day habit, I wasn't a light smoker believe it or not)!

If you want to talk about rights, it's also my right to not inhale someone else's smoke... which inevitably happens at setters :-p. Sometimes it's difficult to find a spot where no one is smoking! I don't really want to argue at all, just put my .02 out there so that it's considered. If you google "Study smoking ban business" the links saying it benefits business or doesn't affect it at all overwhelmingly outnumber the links that say otherwise. I personally think a place like setters would thrive in a completely smoke free environment. The only establishment I could see being hurt is a place that only offers a place to drink & smoke like a hole in the wall bar or something like that. Setters is the best place to play vball at any level around here and I personally don't believe they would see a decrease in business because of that fact. Someone else may have personal knowledge of the effects of going completely no smoking and I'm not going to attempt to discredit that. I'm just putting my .02 out there in the hopes it might convince setters to try it! Here are some links:

Steve,
I would love to go to non-smoking but I really don't have a say in it. I too was a heavy smoker (3 packs a day for 15 years) so I know how both sides feel. I know you can't smoke inside but I'm not sure about how it affects the outside. For one thing I HATE the smell of the bar area when you first open it. That is pretty gross. I would think that the smokers need to be more considerate of people that are around. After all, after you have played 3 games of volleyball in the heat and humidity, when you come off the courts you are usually trying to catch your breath. Coming through a wall of smoke is not the thing that I would want to do. It would be great if they could add a upper deck and all the smokers would have to go upstairs to smoke. That way the players would not be affected by second hand smoke.

Like you said, it is just my opinion.
